According to Wikipedia, dowry is the money, goods, or estate that a woman brings to her husband in marriage. It contrasts with bride price, which is paid to the bride's parents, and dower, which is property settled on the bride herself by the groom at the time of marriage. The same culture may simultaneously practice both dowry and bride price. Dowry is an ancient custom, and its existence may well predate records of it.
Rukumani and Devanayagam love each other as they were to have a secret relationship. They were not to have any relationship before marriage as it is in Indian culture. This situation shows that the important thing in relationship is that they will be live together for a long period of time. It is where the pride of the family is very important for certain people.
In everything’s arrange, they arrange the wedding for the couple. An arranged marriage is one in which by someone other than the couple getting married makes the selection of the persons to be wed, curtailing or avoiding the process of courtship. Marriage is about love and the ones’ that getting married is their right to choose their couple and this is the right way to have a relationship.

In the present, the concept of dowry is vary from the past. People nowadays concern on the money value rather human value. Why I said so? You see, when you want to buy something for a person, you will judge the value of the present rather than the person you wanted to give. When the time that money conquer the world, we have no value and only the tools of money to be play off. Imagine that a killer willing to kill someone even with a high ransom of money. Then, do we still consider human are more valuable than the money?
